The Orange County Public Works Department has made significant safety improvements to the intersection of Clarcona-Ocoee Rd. and Gaymar Dr. The intersection is the site of a fatal crash that tragically claimed five lives in March 2021.
In response to the tragedy, Orange County Public Works staff expedited the installation of the new traffic signal at the intersection, which became operational on May 3, 2022.
A site analysis determined adding a traffic signal would improve safety at that location. Public Works’ Traffic Engineering division accelerated the process of installing the traffic signal by using internal resources, saving nearly a year in design and construction. In addition, pavement markings showing the speed limit were installed approaching the intersection, as well as speed feedback signs.
